8.31.2014 - Day 4

Christmas project remains.

As I was sorting through boxes in the office yesterday, I came across the remains of a project I had worked on before Christmas last year. I painted the insides of glass ornaments and to let the extra paint run out, I set them upside down in these little glass jars I had. When the project was finished, I had a "hurry up and clear off the surfaces" cleaning frenzy and threw the jars in a box. The paint dried in the jars and last night, I scraped the paint out of the jars and found they dried in these cute little cup shapes. I love how swirly and colorful they are. It makes me want to pull out the ornaments already! Too early for that...must wait until November...must wait...

8.30.2014 - Day 3

How can I get rid of things when I open boxes to find things like this? It's happiness in a little gingham box.

8.29.2014 - Day 2

Do you have a room like this??

We live in a small space and I have lots of stuff. No. I don't think you understand me. I mean...I...have...lots...and...LOTS...of...stuff!! We have this whole room that could multiply our living space significantly, but currently it's playing the role of storage locker. It's the room that we shove everything into when we "clean" the living room/kitchen area (there are always about twenty other things I would rather be doing than cleaning). It's the space we can close the door and ignore that it exists until we need paper clips or wrapping paper or the suitcase, then we tip-toe in and grab what we need, all the time hoping we don't step on a pin or knock a stack of something over. Well, this weekend I'm on a mission. I want to make the "office/creative space" into an actual office/creative space. It doesn't actually always look like this, but it's been building for quite awhile. Not sure how far I will get this weekend, but I have some overall goals in mind.

  • Brighten the room. The windows are small and don't let in much light and the color casts a weird color on everything.
  • Get rid of clutter. Do I really need to keep those pipe cleaners for 20 years? I'll buy new ones if I need them.
  • Make it cozy. If I could get rid of all the clutter, could I fit a small loveseat or big cushy chair?!
  • Get something fun on the walls. What's the point of making and collecting cute stuff if you never put it up on the walls?
  • Curtains. We've lived here four years and I still don't have curtains up in this room!
  • Permanent place for the sewing machine. Let's face it, if I have to set it up and take it down every time I want to use it, I'm likely to skip it instead.
  • Better organized space. This seems self explanatory, but let's just say that I want to be able to easily access those things I actually use on a regular basis.

I think that's about it. It might take awhile, but I have three days off and no plans, no husband (working) and no cable. Should be able to get something done! Think of me in this room while you are out camping, swimming, hiking and doing all sorts of other outdoorsy sunshiny fun things. Happy Labor Day!!

8.28.2014 - Day 1

This is what pizza sauce looks like before it becomes pizza sauce.

Inspired by Lucy at Lucy 365 Days II to take one picture every day and post it here. It seems like quite a commitment, but I need something to motivate me to take more pictures these days. I know it seems strange to start something like this on August 28th, but if there is something I've learned in my life, it's that you shouldn't wait to start good things. If you wait for January, wait for Monday, wait for next (insert random time frame here), it will never happen. So, here's to a new year of not putting off things!

Prepare to see lots of pictures of food (and maybe traffic shots) because some days it seems like that is all I do. :)
